Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli (PhD) inspected Eskişehir Forest Nursery and the Biofuel Facility, Institute of Soil and Ecology and Kayaç Park located in the campus.
After the inspection, Pakdemirli stated that he came to Eskişehir Forest Nursery, especially to make inspections in the Biofuel Plant.
Explaining that the biofuel plant is involved in a project that he has already worked on, Pakdemirli added:
"Upon being assigned as the minister, I immediately informed Deputy Minister and Director General for Forestry of the issue. Project stepped up in a few months. Let me explain the project simply: First, forest wastes are collected and then pipes are laid among the forest wastes. While supplying cold water from one side, hot water is taken from the other side. The aim is to ensure heating. By doing so, you can heat a greenhouse or a building. The system can be applied to forest villages. After 18 months, these wastes are completely transformed into peat and fertilizer at the end. This process is applicable from every aspect. We have recently implemented this process in one of our forest villages. We will visit this village. Also, there is an eco-village project with houses made from mud-bricks and straw. All of them will be analyzed. We will invite our President and first lady to that village."
"Herbal forest wastes to be transformed into energy and fertilizer"
Minister Pakdemirli emphasized that water at 61.5 oC was obtained from the wastes. "There is no heating. Forest wastes reach a temperature of 60 oC due to exothermic reaction. We examined a building heated with energy obtained from this plant. Interior temperature of the building was 30 oC. It is possible to heat a house of about 200 m2 with 50 tons of herbal forest wastes. After 18 months, the wastes transform into peat, fertilizer and high-grade soil. Our biofuel plant is a good example of permaculture implementation. It is intended to reuse and to dispose of such wastes without harming the environment. We want to implement these projects especially in low-income forest villages in addition to our income-generating projects", said Minister Pakdemirli.
During his site visit, Minister Pakdemirli was accompanied by Eskişehir Governor Özdemir Çakacak, AK Party Eskişehir deputies Nabi Avcı, Harun Karacan, Emine Nur Günay and Eskişehir Regional Director of Forestry, Recep Temel.
