1.9 BILLION TL WILL BE CONTRIBUTED TO COUNTRY'S ECONOMY BY THESE LANDS
The General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry makes the farmers smile with the irrigation projects implemented in the Aegean. Providing water of life for about 2 million 300 thousand acres of land in the Aegean, DSİ, will contribute to the country's economy about 1.9 billion TL this summer.
WATER OF LIFE FOR 2 MILLION 300 THOUSANDS ACRES OF LAND
Emphasizing the beginning of irrigation season for producers in Aegean Region in June, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli said: "Agricultural lands have been supplied with water thanks to the projects 37 in İzmir, 36 in Manisa, 40 in Uşak. By supplying water for 2 million 300 thousand acres of land in these three provinces with these projects, the farmers of the region, that is, the country's economy will be provided with a contribution of 1.9 billion TL."
Minister Pakdemirli also stated that 72% of irrigable agricultural lands in İzmir were opened to modern irrigation.
"A total of 918 thousand 730 acres of land in Izmir has been irrigated and the contribution of these projects to our farmers in Izmir will have been 706 million 142 thousand TL by the end of 2019. 81% of the fertile lands in Manisa have been supplied with modern irrigation and the contribution of these projects to our farmers in Manisa will have been 1 billion 62 million 586 thousand TL by the end of 2019. Likewise, in Uşak, 75% of the fertile lands have been opened to irrigation by DSİ and in this way, the contribution of these projects to our farmers in Uşak will have been about 125 million 606 TL by the end of this year," said the Minister.
WATER FLOW MONITORED ONLINE SECOND BY SECOND
Pakdemirli also noted that they were monitoring the water flow online at 67 different points of the Aegean Region with the "Irrigation Measurement Facilities Project", saying: "We are monitoring the water flow online from drinking water and agricultural water to the industrial water supplied to Petkim and Kula Thermal Power Plant with the latest technology system we have established."
WATER MEANS NATIONAL WEALTH
Finally, Minister Pakdemirli reminded the citizens that water meant national wealth, and said that the fill rates in İzmir dams were better than last year but it did not mean that water was abundant or unlimited.
