75 MILLION ANNUAL PLANTING PRODUCTION, RISE TO AVARAGE 350 MILLION IN THE LAST 16 YEARS
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) has achieved great success in afforestation in recent years also caught in the production of seedlings. While the average annual production of saplings was 75 million between the years 1992-2002, with the studies carried out in the last 16 years, annual sapling production amount has increased to 350 million pieces on average.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry reminded that seedlings were imported in the past and said that "In recent years, how we have achieved a great distance and success in afforestation, we have also made significant progress in the production of saplings. Before 2003, while the average annual production of saplings was 75 million between the years 1992-2002, in the last 16 years we have achieved an average annual production of 350 million saplings. In some years, this production amount increased to 470 million units."
320 MILLION SAPLINGS PRODUCED IN 2018
Pakdemirli emphasized that forest nurseries that are spread throughout the country, increased their production capacity according to need continue his speech "We have increased our annual sapling production capacity by 54 million in the last 10 years. Within this framework, we produced 320 million saplings last year and brought these saplings together with the soil. In addition, with these saplings produced, we met the needs of every segment of the society, especially municipalities and citizens."
SPECIES WHICH ARE PRODUCED INCREASE
Pakdemirli underlined that they increased the number of species produced in forest nurseries from 400 to 854 in the last 5 years and said that "As of August this year, we achieved 183 million sapling production. For the first time in the world, we succeeded in mass production of endangered junipers without using chemical methods."
In addition, Minister Pakdemirli stated that they produce average 23 million saplings of local species such as thorn apple, wild pear, sorb and rosehip every year and said that "With these saplings, we ensure the food needs of wild animals. On the other hand, we produce an average of 8 million medicinal and aromatic plants every year."
INCREASE IN SEED PRODUCTION
Minister Pakdemirli stated that there were also increases in seed production and completed his words "While the amount of seeds produced in 2003 was 100 tons, 223 tons of seeds were produced from forest tree species such as coniferous and deciduous and ornamental plants in 2018."
