The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) continues to fight forest fires continuously. This year, 5.469 hectares of land across the country have been damaged in wildfires. The area most damaged by the fires was within the boundaries of Izmir Forest Regional Directorate.
Directorate General of Forestry, which has responded to a total of 1,965 wildfires since the beginning of 2019, continues struggling across the country with 28 Regional Directorates and Forestry Operation Directorates attached to these regions. 1.965 fires occurred this year and a total of 5.469 hectares of land in our country was damaged.
MOST OF THE DAMAGE IS IN IZMIR REGION
The most damage in the country this year was within the borders of Izmir Forest Regional Directorate, which covers Izmir and Manisa provinces. There were a total of 223 fires in this area and 1.047 hectares were damaged. Of these areas damaged, 145 hectares were ground fire while 902 hectares were as hill fires.
The second most damaged area was within the borders of the Muğla Regional Directorate of Forestry, which covers the provinces of Muğla and Aydın. 246 wildfires occurred in this area 272 hectares damaged due to ground fire, 676 hectares from hill fire with a sum of 676 hectares.
DAMAGED AREA PER FIRE HAS DECREASED
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli made a statement on the subject and said, "Our forest organization continues to increase its success in the fight against fires every year. Thanks to the effort made by our forest organization, the amount of damaged area per fire has decreased compared to previous years. The area damaged per fire in 2017 was 5,5, while it was 2,85 hectares in 2018 and it was 2,78 hectares as of today. "
11 MILLION SAPLINGS TO BE PLANTED
Minister Pakdemirli also stated that they were preparing to set a record beginning on 11.11.2019 with the slogan "More Green Turkey" we will start a simultaneous campaign in 81 provinces and bring 11 million saplings together with the soil. I would like to invite all our citizens to meet a sapling with the soil within the framework of this campaign that day," he said.
