In order to ensure planned production by developing, encouraging, recording, monitoring and reporting the production with protected cultivation, the Ministry created a database for protected cultivation registry pursuant to the Legislation on the Implementation of Controlled Protected Cultivation for the first time in 2004. With this database, nearly 50.000 hectares of area, which accounts for 83 % of total protected cultivation area of Turkey, was taken under record.
The available legislation and registry system were updated in 2010 and made more practical under the names of Legislation on the Registration of Protected Cultivation, and Protected Cultivation Registry System. Supports for protected cultivation were paid by the Ministry according to this database. The database covers not only the identity information of producers dealing with protected cultivation but also information about facilities and cultivation methods such as size of facility, type of facility, materials used in protection, growing techniques and crop varieties.
