The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Directorate General for Nature Conservation and National Parks continues its activities to protect sea turtles this year in cooperation with universities and voluntary organizations. Thanks to the success of these conservation efforts, the adventures of the hatchlings of the sea turtles who came to the shores of our country to meet the sea by hatching from their eggs continue to give documentary images.
With the conservation works of Directorate General for Nature Conservation and National Parks for sea turtles (caretta caretta-loggerhead sea turtle, Chelonia mydas- green sea turtle), under the convention of BERN (Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats) and BARCELONA (the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against pollution), that Turkey is a party, every year thousands of sea turtles meet the sea.
590,984 TURTLE CUBS MET THE SEA LAST YEAR
In our country, 14 of the 21 important sea turtles nesting beaches regularly carry out "monitoring, protection and Nest detection" studies. 2018 as a result of the 143.7 km coastline 301 thousand 224 caretta caretta cubs and 289 thousand 760 Chelonia mydas cubs, a total of 590 thousand 984 cubs left our beaches and returned to the sea.
This year, our beaches began to send sea turtles off. Directorate General for Nature Conservation and National Parks teams' cameras caught the struggle of the baby sea turtles fluttering in a rush to reach the sea and has almost revealed images in a taste of a documentary from Akyatan beach in Adana.
The adventure of sea turtle hatchlings to meet the sea continues until the end of October each year.
