It is announced by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry that sugar factories started to make sugar beet production contract with farmers before sowing term in this year.
In accordance with Sugar Law, sugar beets have to be grown through production contract.
Within this scope, all sugar factories make a production contract with farmers before sowing term in 2019. While it is made production contract between sugar beet farmers and sugar factory before sowing, production contract includes certain provisions such as production requirements between the parties and principle and procedures with respect to purchasing. Thanks to production contract, it is guaranteed the rights and responsibilities of the parties.
Under the contract, seeds and fertilizers were started to be delivered to farmers by the factories. Thus, the sustainability of beet farming is ensured. Therefore, the sustainability of sugar beet farming is ensured.
Factories make payment in advance for costs such as maintenance, irrigation, removing before harvest. Farmers growing sugar beet are paid 40% of production value approximately before harvesting time
EXPECTATION FOR INCREASE IN SUGAR BEET PRODUCTION
In accordance with the Law, thanks to quota system, the balance of supply and demand is established and production is planned, and also stability is ensured. Furthermore, thanks to the quota system, welfare of the farmers growing sugar beet are protected steadily, by preventing production fluctuation.
In addition, the reduction of starch-based sugar quotas to 2.5% was welcomed by the farmers, and also this year, a large increase in sugar beet production is expected.
The biggest share in sugar production belongs to factories of the Union of Cooperatives of Sugar Beet Sowers (PANKOBİRLİK) with the ratio of 37% of total production. The State-Owned Türkşeker AŞ is still dominating 34% of the sector with 15 sugar factories. Thus, sugar beet production at a level which is not in any other products is made by farmer cooperatives, and public continues to sugar production in a strong manner.
