Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli, who visited the Potato Research Institute in Nigde, which conducted the native seed study, stated that Turkey's need to ensure self-sufficiency for seed and said: "Now our native potato variaties, that are completely free from these diseases, very soon to be released. We also have varieties of yellow-navy blue, yellow-red potatoes that will be available."
Bekir Pakdemirli, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, visited the Potato Research Institute, where domestic seed studies were conducted in Niğde. Minister Pakdemirli visited the facility and took a briefing from Director Uğur Pırlak. Pakdemirli, who tasted the chips prepared from the colored potatoes produced here, visited the laboratories and harvested them in the greenhouse.
Pakdemirli, who made statements to the journalists after the investigations, pointed out that the institute has achieved successful works.
Minister Pakdemirli stating that for Turkey, the need to ensure self-sufficiency for seed, "Here we have made innovations in potatoes today. There are some regions that are forbidden and not arable areas. There are also diseases such as warts in the region. We have also our native potato varieties that are completely free from this disease. They are also will be released as well. These are initiatives that will increase the total production capacity of Turkey. "
FAN POTATOES WILL BE RELEASED
Minister Pakdemirli pointed to the colorful potatoes produced in the institute and said:
"Today we have also seen our colored potatoes. Yellow and navy now for tomorrow, our yellow-red fans potatoes that may arise in the market. Turkey is an important country, 4-4.5 million tonnes of production and consumption that is in the top 10 in the world. Around 35 kilograms of potatoes are consumed in the world while approximately 50 kilograms of potatoes are consumed in Turkey. In this sense, we have our own breed as a country consuming potatoes, abroad seeds about money will be sent. It will be staying in our pockets as value-added, local and national."
