THESE SYSTEMS SAVE OVER 60 PERCENT IN IRRIGATION
Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Directorate of General State Hydraulic Works (DSI) prefers closed and piped systems where water saving is firstly considered in the irrigation facilities that it operates. Thanks to this system, over 60 percent of water can be saved in areas where dripping and sprinkling are used.
There is an increase in water demands in agricultural sector, drinking, general using and industrial sector which is parallel to the increase in population in our country as in the world. This situation necessitates efficient use of our existing water resources, especially irrigation.
In this context, emphasizing that water saving is firstly considered in the irrigation facilities that it operates; Bekir Pakdemirli (PhD), Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, said that "in our geography, a drought incident is generally experienced every 7 years. Therefore, irrigation projects that raise the welfare level of the community should be implemented as a priority and rapidly. In doing so, we should prefer saving systems in irrigation because we are not a water-rich country," he said.
