a) To conduct studies to determine principles, fundamentals, policies and strategies related to monitoring of quality and quantity of water resources,
b) To prepare and update monitoring programs specific to each basin, to determine the stations to be monitored, the parameters to be analysed with monitoring frequencies and monitoring methods,
c) To monitor the quantity and quality of surface and groundwaters including coastal and transitional waters or to be monitored,
d) To digitize water resources, point and diffuse pressures based on geographic information systems; to determine the water collection areas, to develop and update digital based data on water management by using advanced analyzes based on geographic information systems,
e) To identify and revise surface water bodies and types of surface water bodies,
f) To provide coordination between the monitoring units of the Ministry, to develop common monitoring standards, to prevent duplication in monitoring,
g) To conduct research and development studies on water quality monitoring systems and technologies,
h) To take necessary precautions against possible chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear attacks, threats and dangers on water resources in coordination with the relevant institutions and organizations,
i) To carry out chemical monitoring studies in sediment or to have chemical monitoring studies conducted in sediment,
j) To provide coordination for the establishment and sustainability of national monitoring network,
k) To organize water monitoring day events,
l) To follow up and report the national and international studies on issues falling within the scope of working group, to prepare legislation, to prepare guidance documents on required subjects, to give trainings or to have trainings being given,
m) To perform other duties assigned by the head of department.
