a) To determine the principles and targets for the protection of groundwater, control and prevention of pollution, to carry out studies in order to determine policies and strategies,

b) To carry out  or to have plans, projects and studies related to groundwater body delineation, characterization, pressures-impacts analysis, risk analysis studies, determination of natural background level, establishment of criterion values and threshold values for the bodies,

c) To evaluate the monitoring data on the chemical status of groundwater, to carry out or have plans, projects and studies to determine deterioration of the chemical status, significant and increasing pollution trends and the points for trend reversal.

d) To carry out studies on the determination of the effects of geothermal waters on water resources,

e) To make or have plans and projects for the improvement of groundwater quality, to monitor and report their implementations,

f) To contribute to the preparation of plans and programs for monitoring studies to be carried out in groundwater bodies,

g) To prepare or carry out projects an to prepare program of measures  for assessment, protecting and improving the quality and quantity status of groundwater bodies,

h) To perform the necessary legislative work in order to maintain the quality of groundwater bodies and to prevent their contamination,

ı) To follow and report national and international studies on the issues falling within the scope of the Working Group, to prepare legislation, to prepare or have guide documents prepared on needed issues, to carry out or have training studies,

 j) To perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
