a) To determine the principles and targets regarding biological and hydromorphological monitoring for surface water bodies including coastal and transitional waters; to carry out studies in order to develop policies and strategies, to follow and report the practices in this regard,
b)To carry out biological and hydromorphological monitoring, research and assessment studies in surface water bodies in comply with the ecosystem-based water quality assessment system, or to have it done,
c)To carry out studies to establish the type specific reference conditions in relation to biological quality elements, or to have it done,
d)To determine the biological, microbiological and hydromorphological parameters to be monitored in water bodies, sampling points, monitoring frequencies and monitoring methods,
e)To monitor the biological, hydromorphological and microbiological quality parameters in water bodies or to have monitored; to evaluate the monitoring results and to report them to the relevant units,
f)To determine indices that enable the evaluation of monitoring results for biological and hydromorphological quality elements,
g) To follow, perform and coordinate the studies carried out by the European Union on the assessment of biological monitoring results and biological status of water resources,
h) To determine the hydromorphological pressure elements in water bodies and to carry out studies evaluating the hydromorphological pressures,
i) To carry out studies determining the criteria for the identification of heavily modified water bodies and artificial water bodies,
j) To do statistical analyses of biological and hydromorphological data,
k)To carry out hydrological and hydromorphological studies, surveys, researches, developments and to develop hydromorphological indices for water resources and water bodies, or to have it done,
l) To follow and report national and international studies on subjects within the responsibility of Working Group; to prepare legislation, to prepare guidance document on required subjects or to have it prepared; to organise trainings or to have it organised,
m)To perform other duties assigned by the Head of Department.
