- Conduct and commission market surveillance and inspection of food and materials in contact with food.
- Oversee official inspection and control practices regarding hygiene rules in food businesses during the production, processing, and distribution stages of food, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
- Develop policies related to food safety and monitor their progress.
- Define principles for traceability throughout food production, processing, and distribution stages.
- Establish emergency action plans related to food safety and manage crisis response.
- Support nutrition-related projects and educational activities carried out by relevant institutions and ensure internal coordination.
- Develop and implement projects for improving technical infrastructure; provide food safety training within the EU harmonization scope in coordination with relevant ministry departments.
- Cooperate with producers' and consumers' unions, universities, and relevant sectors on food safety and hygiene issues.
- Prepare hygiene guidelines, brochures, posters, and similar materials in coordination with the relevant ministry unit and ensure their dissemination.
- Collaborate with relevant organizations to protect public health by promoting food safety and hygiene.
- Define procedures for approval and registration of food and feed businesses.
- Specify the technical and hygiene requirements for approved and registered food and feed businesses.
- Monitor and coordinate registration and approval procedures carried out by Provincial Directorates.
- Organize training activities and implement projects to improve the technical infrastructure of food businesses.
- Arrange and coordinate training for official veterinarians and auxiliaries working in meat cutting plants in collaboration with relevant ministry units.
- Prepare annual and multi-annual control plans.
- Draft and publish annual activity reports based on inspection results.
- Develop and implement the National Residue Plan for live animals, primary animal products, and meats; monitor the outcomes nationwide and determine laboratories and responsibilities within the framework of the National Residue Monitoring Plans, ensuring internal coordination.
- Follow up on approval processes of facilities handling animal by-products intended for feed use.
- Inspect and control feed businesses and feeds available on the market.
- Monitor physical, chemical, and biological hazards in feeds and carry out relevant inspections.
- Implement procedures related to feeds subject to approval.
- Manage feed-related risk communication and risk management activities.
- Ensure traceability during feed production, processing, and distribution stages.
- Track and evaluate feed production volumes and prices.
- Develop policies to support the growth of the feed sector and prepare related reports.
- Establish emergency action plans related to feed and manage crisis response.
- Coordinate and maintain communication with national and international institutions and NGOs within the scope of responsibilities.
- Conduct legislative work relevant to its domain, implement it, and participate in similar work with other institutions.
- Identify educational gaps and develop in-service training programs in collaboration with relevant ministry departments.
- Propose database creation to the Directorate General of Information Technologies, contribute to development and use, gather and analyze statistical data, and run training activities in coordination with relevant units.
- Fulfill other duties assigned by the Director General.
